Fascinating #science videos for the day
#Physics: time crystals created in quantum computers.
>Sounds a bit a like resonance in classical physics to me, but it is definitely not the same.

#Astrophysics: super massive black holes.
>We don't know their origin story yet

#AI: Google's lamda
> Large language models are not sentient, yet. It is just marketing.
@VictorVenema
I read through a Wired inteview with the guy who announced it was sentient. It seems like he has an unhealthy relationship with the neural network model and sounds confused. He says it was only a hypothesis but he hired an attorney for the neural network anyways. 🙆♂️
@ashwinvis 🤡 🤡 🤡
@ashwinvis In a glance, too much fluff and not enough substance (or reference) in the time crystal video. Are they talking about https://doi.org/10.1038/nature21413 ?
@meisam
No, that seems to be an earlier attempt. These are the sources and probably the original article is linked there:

https://www.quantamagazine.org/first-time-crystal-built-using-googles-quantum-computer-20210730/
@ashwinvis Then I think they mean this: https://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-021-04257-w
@ashwinvis Google fired the "marketing guy". Not sure that was marketing.
