Let's stop the spread of misinformation on YouTube.

Rather than reword the information myself I think its better to get it straight from @mozilla.

Here's 28 reasons why YouTube should change:

And here's a browser extension you can install to help the Mozilla understand YouTube recomendations:

Disclaimer: I do not use YouTube (or any google products if I can help it) but I thought this would help as I know I'm in the minority.

@polanco FWIW, GPT-3 without a human editor rambles a lot. Looking at its comments:

I would immediately lose attention if someone talks this much aimlessly.

The Lord of the Rings, Book 1, Chapter 1: A Long-Expected Party

Nice symmetry in chapter titles.

Interesting thoughts by @darius on which fights the Fediverse can win against centralized commercial services.

"In this talk, I am going to try and inspire you to make things that would be literally impossible to make on the centralized web...Expect to hear concrete examples of software that already exists, and also examples of software that could conceivably exist in the very near future."

Sir David Attenborough on #capitalism:

"We are going to have to live more economically than we do. And we can do that and, I believe we will do it more happily, not less happily. And that the excesses the capitalist system has brought us, have got to be curbed somehow."

"That doesn't mean to say that capitalism is dead and I'm not an economist and I don't know. But I believe the nations of the world, ordinary people worldwide, are beginning to realise that greed does not actually lead to joy."

The social dilemma - is it really a dilemma

@meisam
True, this can be one of many solutions, not the only way. I also have hope for the fediverse, the indieweb - such experiments, where social networks are coop societies - taking money out of the equation.

Oh yes, before I forget,

The social dilemma - is it really a dilemma

@meisam The economic angle they raise is that of market failures - which means the flaws of economy incentivizes behaviour which are harmful to the environment or ourselves. Another example of a market failure is how packaging designed to recycle better and products which last longer are not rewarded by the system.

@meisam Proper training would mean teaching everyone critical thinking at school. Interesting proposition.

Yes the status quo is really hard to break. Uprisings have never been easy.

One of the successes of the documentary was that, it gives a grounded opinion to convince everyone why this is a big problem - an existential threat. I felt a little more time could have been devoted to the solutions - I only saw more regulations, taxing and banning etc

The social dilemma - is it really a dilemma

@meisam I wonder how many people actually deleted their accounts after watching the documentary. When the documentary dropped. I wondered "Should I watch it? I have been reading, writing and talking to more people about the shit these platforms are for ages. Hardly anyone budged."

I think, talking about concerns don't hit home to regular people. My answer to why I deleted my accounts was always simple:

"I don't want blood on my hands."

Apparently under state law you are allowed to keep a rabbit in Queensland under 2 conditions. Firstly if you are a scientist, and secondly if you are a magician. I would really like to know how exactly one proves that they are a magician. Do you register with some kind of body? Do you carry a membership card? Or can you just show them your tall hat and little white cane? I wonder if this has been tested.
